Alternator and aux belts
Hi guys and girls i wonder if anyone can help.I purchased a 1985 1.6 non turbo camper a few weeks ago and went on sat new years day to collect.Well 70 miles into my journey home the alternator pivot bolts dropped of leaving the belt flaying about knocking of my oil filler cap.Been on the motor way i tried to get to services but with no avail.I was told by my insurance company i had realy cover but tha AA had no record of it so £500 later i am back in Hull.My problem is i have no idea how the belt runs on the pulley and the smaller belt is slack with no adjustment.Does the belt go around the crank then the water pump and then the alternator and the small belt is there just incase for back up.Any photos would help very much i have had a look on the wiki but still stuck. Many thanks Al.

2 belts
1 belt from crank to water pump- tightened by shimming pulley(3 bolts and split pulley, remove shims to tighten)
1 belt pump to alternator - tightened by moving alternator
dont loose/bin shims put them in front of pulley so they do nothing until you need them
if there is a 3rd belt its prob cos in cars/later vans only one belt is used unless you have power stering
goes from crank to water pump and alternator
do you have power steering? this is all about no power belts.[pwr belt goes crank to pwr pump

Any tips on getting the pulley bolts loose, the water pump just keeps turning just cant get it to stop slipping. The good news is as of yet no damage to engine.Got the battery recharged and started first time.Roll on summer and a bit of mig time for the body work.Cheers.

an old v belt and a prybar will enabal you to undo the bolts on the water pump, twist the v belt and hold with the prybar and use a 18" breaker bar and a hex head 13mm socket to crack the bolts, another pair of hands will be useful
