LED Turn indicator

Hello,

I've not had a VW with LED's on the dash before, and the turn indicator is not working, everything else works OK, Iv'e had the dash pod off for the brake master cylinder , but I cant remember if the led worked before. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated

1980 1600 CT , basic dash, speedo and fuel gauge only.

Also, while I think about it, the speedo is sluggish when reducing speed, to the point that it is more like a recording device of max speed obtained, (ok you laugh so it won't realistcally be more than about 95 kph)...but Ilike it that way, you get a chance to stare back at the cows)

it is quite unusual for an led to go but possible to replace if you're gentle with the PCB behind the dash. I'd say you should have a look at the 14 pin connector under the right side of the dash pod - you'll find a million posts on here where this has solved funny dash problems. The turn indicator is pin 10 - clean that up in particular and make sure it's making a good contact.

As for the speedo - I've also had that, and for me it was the coil spring within the speedo being weak, or possibly even snapped (not sure what speed is marked at the top). You can take disconnect the PCB behind the speedo for the Oil pressure stuff, remove the speedo and take it out to check. It's not too bad a job and you'll have almost got there already if you clean up the 14-pin connector!

A bit of an update.

I had effectively a 3 part job to do. Fit bulb holder into nsf indicator, (thanks for that Peet)
Get led turn dash indicator to work
Sort dragging speedo needle.

I went by the Haynes, and would add the following

Remove the instrument pod completely, including unscrewing the speedo cable, even if it is only a little job you are undertaking. The plastic panel holding the LED assembly is very delicate , being easy to put back wrongly.

There was no corrosion on the multi pin plug, but Ifelt the whole thing was a bit loose. I wound 2 turns of clear packing tape around the under side plastic pin, trimmed to a good fit. Then taking the black plastic lower part of the multipin connector I clipped it well to the board. This has the effect of 'swelling' the printed circuit tracks, improving the plug connections. Dash led now ok.

The draggy speedo needle was due to the watch spring on the needle behind the dial card being distorted, dragging on the speedo steel casing. A gentle touch with a spatula to free it off, and all is ok.
