Windscreen warranty?

Post by jake1953 »

Had a new windscreen fitted May this year and I've only gone about 500 miles since. I supplied a J.K. new rubber to the fitting firm. Today, I've just noticed a verticle crack 3 inches long on the n/s bottom corner. There are no other marks on or near the crack so don't know why it's cracked. It's been ok since May until now.
Is there a warranty on windscreens?
Are J.K. rubbers as bad as is made out on here?
The welder assures me all was ok after the repairs to both bottom corners
Any opinions?

could be the frost but would have thought there must have been a defect in that area for the frost to start it cracking.

And therein lies the probable cause of your woes, welder did the corners, maybe a tiny bit tight/ then so called 'scabby' new seal and mayhap a little extra force needed to fit the glass and so a little stress/crack or whatever and theres your problem

If your there when the screen gets popped out , have a look at the area of repair to ensure its flush with surrounding metal and not prodruding in any way and bin the nasty seal

Well the windscreen firm came today and showed me the tiniest of stone chips right on the rubber at the bottom of the crack, which in conjunction with the freezing weather caused the crack . In otherwords - tough. £80.00+vat.
At least ir's good to know the repairwork is ok and apparently the JK rubber was ok.
Fingers crossed this one lasts a bit longer.
