Make sure that you know which carb is fitted as yours could be one of a number. I had a similar proble a few years ago with an air cooled. I got the cut off valve but it was for the wrong carb and did not fit. Good luck

got the idle valve today from vw heritage, i sent my brother over there to collect it for me,

the garage have now fitted it and have said that now that they have fixed that they think that there is not enough fuel coming into the carb so they have ordered a fuel pump from euro car parts,

the problem is there is fuel coming through, i have told them to fit a new fuel filter wich they have done but it is still not doing the job,

do you guys think that it needs a new fuel pump? there is fuel coming through to the carbs but they say there is not enough or "not the right pressure"

does this sound like it will fix it or do you think this garage just dont know wot they are talking about???

i thought they would have tested the fuel pump when they were diagnosing the fault, they have told me today they are going to charge me £200 to fit the fuel pump wich sounds alot to me, is this a hard part to fit???

im getting really fed up now, i just want my new camper on the road so i can start repainting and refitting a nice new interior into it

thanks for your help

are we still not starting?

if you have fuel coming through it WILL start , just not run /drive ok.

i would suggest you look for a garage that knows what they are doing.

idle soleniod can be tested/bypassed, asked to see the old one and test it.

if your still not starting tell them to put some fuel down the carb , but it will prob be an electrical fault if its still not starting.

the garage have told me that the diaphram in the fuel pump is not working, they are in the process of fitting a new fuel pump today, i said to them maybe the fuel filter or fuel lines are blocked but they said they have bypasses the fuel filter and fuel lines to test the fuel pump and it is not working properly, the mechanic said to me that he is going to fit the new fuel pump and set it to the correct pressure and set the carbs up properly for me and he seems to be pretty certain that this will fix the problem, they are working on it now and they said i should hopefully be able to pick the van up thisafternoon,

does this information about the fuel pump and carbs needing to be set up sound correct?

SUCESS AT LAST!!!

new fuel pump, fuel filter and idle cut off valve have been fitted and the van is now running like a dream!

well when i say a dream its not actually quite there yet but it does run and drive,

when i got it home last night it was idling rather fast and it was really hard to put it into 1st and 2nd gear when driving slow, i got home a friend had a look at it and after tweaking the two screws on the left hand side of the engine (idle speed and idle under revs is what i think they do) aswell as tweaking the tiny scres on each carb wich i cannot remember wot they are called, he managed to get it to idle slower and it now drives much better,

it could stilll be better,

really, seems weird, wot vacuum measurment are your carbs set at then, there must be a measurment otherwise surely there would be not enough or too much vacuum?
