MY smev 2 burner hob arrived today. There seems to be a fair few sizes of bottle to choose from. Is there a standard "norm" size for a campervan and are propane / butane bottles both readily available?
Thanks

Re: gas canister size
When in the UK I use Calor propane. Just the small one as it fits perfectly in the cupboard, very easily obtainable & last for ages. Also have Camping Gaz 907 for etra outside stove and as a back up. You can't get Calor on the continent but Camping Gaz is readily available; ut it's usually cheaper to buy a local bottle and reg depending where you are and how long you're staying.
Remember to line your gas locker and don't forget the drop out holes at the bottom

Thanks for the info. I checked on the wiki but couldn't find anything on lining the cupboard or drop out holes.
Can you give me more details as I want this to be a safe conversion
Thanks

Gas is heavier than air so you need a hole in the floor to allow it to escape rather than build up in the event of a leak. My van has two floor holes, one in the cupboard for the gas bottle and one behind the fridge which runs on gas.
No idea about the 'lining' thing though........

Re: gas canister size
Do we mean the hole to go right through the van floor?

Yup!! Here's the square one where the gas bottle lives, just behind the regulator....(ignore the yellow rings)

and you can just make out the small circular one to the right of the propex and just behind the small strip of wood, fridge removed obviously.

Re: gas canister size
As Bren says, hole right through to outside to alow any escaped gas to vent out of the van. There's another vent under the bottle and a couple more under the fridge & cooker unit.

The bottle cupboard should (apparently) be lined & sealed round to confine any leaks within the cupboard and out the drop-out, rather than spreading out under the furniture edges.
There's a lot of useful info on the Self Build Motor Caravan Club website & forums which you might find useful.
