Pritty rare them though, would have thought an ambulance would be better for ripping apart for a camper - they tend to be the cheepest 101s rather than the most expencive - makes it all the more tempting. A mates got one that makes a fine camper, hes been to south africa in it. Even got a Noken winch on it, needed a few body mods to fit it but it had to be done when he was told "you can't fit them to ambulance bodys"
I've seen lots of portal axled Land-Rovers over the years, all done up as "chalange trucks", probubly asthetics as much as anything - I think its the next step after the nasty lift kit, snorkal, silly sized tyres and most importantly, when you've run out of space for more "one life, get one" stickers. Seems so pointless though as compare a Land-Rover (cheep small lightweight highspeed 4x4), a C303 (cheep secondhand, heavyweight, slower mid 4x4) or a mog (expencive heavyweight slow 4x4) and you end up with an expencive slow but still lightweight (ie not heavy duity on the grand scale of things) 4x4, surely thats a compromise built on the bad points of each donor? Just so someone can attach a green oval to the front? The thing that makes it seem most rediculus is these LR ready 303 axle sets seem to retail for as much if not more than a complete fully functioning C303, which worked pritty well (I presume that means a half decent 303 goes in the bin to make one, and the rest of the parts don't sell well as no one needs spares?)
