Cold weather = shagged starter batteries...

If your starer battery is on its way out, this cold weather will finish it off. Mine went a while back so I have gone for the biggest I could fit in the engine bay (diesel) and this is what is going down at the moment before you run down Halfords and hand over your hard earned cash.

Right... got the day off today so I am on a battery hunt.

Bosch 019 with 830ccamps with 4 year warranty

Halfords = £129 in store, £116 online
Langley Motor Factors down the road = £123
GSF Kingston = £74.50


I am off down GSF and save myself the £54.50. That is quite a big saving

Make sure that it is really knackered and not just frozen.
Lead acid batteries don't like being charged or giving up their charge when temps are low.

Strangely low temps lengthen the storage life though, charge them up, empty the electrolyte out and put them in the freezer - keep for years.

If anyone has a costco card there batteries work out even cheaper and there bosch jobbies, last year I had to buy one for the transit (yeah I know) Halfords was £125, Halfords trade was around £70 but costco was £58 inc VAT.

Sorry not much help to those with no costco card, but if you know someone with one its worth having a chat to them

Don't forget that a cold/low battery once cranked even for a couple of seconds will warm up and the volts will rise.
Crank and wait for a few minutes. Try again. (insulate/wrap battery while waiting)
