help no lights

hi all, whilst out in the van tonight my main beam lights died, the side lights still work but no main or fog, also full beam will not stay on unless you hold the stork. any ideas

Hello,

that sounds to me like a light switch fault. Have you checked the connections at the back? You could maybe test it by taking the connector off and bridging the pins to check the dipped beam. The fog lights not working and the high beam not staying on sounds like it's not passing the current through to the main beam or the fog switch - that's the behaviour if you don't have main dipped beam.

It doesn't sound to me like a fuse problem as that would be more than one fuse. Possibly you could clean up the earth crowns - I can't remember where that switch gets its earth from I'm afraid.

Good luck with it - I'll check the wire colours when I'm out if you're having problems testing it from the switch...

Bingo.. thanks a lot for the advice, turned out to be worn and dirty contact in the switch so stripped it down cleaned and stretched a couple of the springs put it all back together and hey presto we have light !

Hi, I have exactly the same problem and taking your advise I took the light switch off and bridged the following connections, from the numbers you can see wrote on the switch.

From Haynes:

Page 12.33, numbers 30 - 58L or 58 R are the left and right parking lights.

Page 12.34, numbers 30 - 56, is left and right dipped beam. Once this is bridged the Full/Main beam stork stays on then.

The connections dont look too bad, should I take apart the actual switch?



Update: You can bridge the connection with a cable and the switch still connected, if an emergency.
Ive also ordered a new switch anyway now.
