USB sockets?
Hi, I want some powered USB sockets on my dash and by the back seat for powering gadgets.
I've bought one of these on a whim to try out. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Micro-Auto-Charge ... 19c10ba3f1, but there must be a better way to do this. Ideally I'd like to put some powered USB sockets within a dash tidy and in the rear panel cards, as I find these cigarette socket thingies tend to work their way loose and disconnect at inopportune moments.
What have you done?

Re: USB sockets?
I want to move away from cigarette socket thingies and hard wire these in, preferably surface mount the USB socket.

Re: USB sockets?
We use some rather nice Mil Spec connectors with a USB insert - but they retail at about 30 quid a pop.
We also have a polished alu version, I'll try find the details on Monday.

Re: USB sockets?
Nice sockets guys. I guess USB cabling behind those to a good quality powered 2 or 4 way USB hub which takes a fused 12v input would do the trick.

Re: USB sockets?
Either that or a 12v step down jobby that will take it down to 5v.

Sounds good, but not a seller I would buy off, they make it look like they are a manufacturer in the UK, reading fedback they look more like chinese based, and over 200 negs in the last month. Buyer beware methinks - although the pics and spec do look tempting

Admit spec and piccies look good though, wouldnt mind one of these, well spotted, just beware where you get em.
I'm a bit of an online veteran, internet since about '94, so I look at all the info, as for the last 3 or 4 yrs its become a minefield buying off here (Net not site) Was suspicious as soon as they proclaimed UK engineers and manufacture, we've stopped making most things, particularly electronics, so I always check it out. Product brill, supplier ugh! in this case. BUT you may well be one of the lucky few that doesnt have reason to complain....you gotta take yer own view and risk accordingly
