Colorado and Utah trip pictures.

Post by ib-bus »

So my wife's boss asks her if we are interested in using their 2 bedroom condo timeshare at the St. Regis in Aspen, Colorado for no charge as they will not be able to go this year due to a trip to Egypt they got invited to do (Rich people ). So we smelled roadtrip and got our rearends to beautiful Aspen , the skiing season starts next week but we did get some snow for the kids to play around with. We did nothing but relax , play , pool time and sleep. Oh forgot to say T25 is not ready just yet so we did this on a VW Jetta

On our way back we decided to stop at Moab and visit Arches National Park.

This is were the holiday turns VW related , I had spotted a T25 with euro plates on the highway but couldn't tell where they were from but later in the day on one of the trails at the Park a euro looking dude asks me if I am mexican , I was not wearing my "sombrero" so it was not obvious I guess , so the guy is interested in knowing how safe it is to travel to Mexico as they shipped their T25 from France and they are on a 1 year trip from North America and want to end in Costa Rica in June of 2011 , we got to talking and they will be spending the night at our place when they get to California before crossing to Mexico sometime in december , they are traveling with 2 kids about the same age as mine , so talk about a trip of a lifetime , they are doing this on a '90 Westfalia turbo diesel. Anyways here is a picture of their ride.

Time for an update after a long december break , well the French family stopped by and spent the night at our place like we had talked about , we had some Carne Asada so they could get used to Mexican food , we talked and they had plans to cross the border early next day with 2 other families traveling south on their campers , a Canadian and a German family. Well we talked about a safe route to go across Mexico and wave them away next morning. Later that day I got a call from them saying they only got a few meters into Mexico when their Westy started running rough , so they turned back to the US and called me for help. I towed them back to my place where they would spend the next few days until the problem was fixed. Good thing is he is a mechanic so he got into opening the engine and found a bad headgasket , we then went hunting for it and found it the next day at a VW parts shop a few miles from my house. We got the head "rectified" (not sure if this is the correct word) and he begun putting the engine back together , he had the Van running again , test drove it a bit around town and south they went again. They have gone down the Baja peninsula crossed the ferry to Mazatlan and are now in Puerto Vallarta , they will then go to Guadalajara, Guanajuato , Mexico City on their way to Cancun before crossing to Belize and further south to Costa Rica.

This is their blog that chronicles their travels http://dd.aux.zameriques.over-blog.com/

ib-bus, your thread is kinda spooky. I am an ex pat Brit living in France and I have seen that French family featured in a classic car mag "Gasoline" I think. My sister lives over your way in Vegas and I am planning on visiting her this year. Last night the wife and I said we might hire a car and do the Pacific coast highway and US part of the Baja .......... basically its a small world eh?
