I was thinkin that you could run an audi or subaru 4wd transmison and reverse the drive with a portal hub on each corner,so you get forwaqrd gears insted of reverse!

Actually you dont need to reverse the subaru diffs to run with portal hubs, as the portals will reverse the direction.

Now there is an option for a H6 auto syncro...

Now to find some portal hubs.......

Thats what I was saying...no need to reverse the diffs!
I think it would be easiest to make up a univesal bolt on box using some existing gears
you could then change the final drive at the drop of a proverbial hat by changingthe gears to a diffrent ratio
it would also need to carry the brakes
I imagine handling would be adversely affected, portals do drive funny
anyone got the time and cash?

Just buy a Haflinger

A friend of mine spent 9 months of his Austrian national service being (in his words) "forced to drive on of those things". He hates them with a passion. All very fun in the sunshine but he tells me that it's not amusing being expected to drive one in the field for weeks on end with no weather protection in a proper winter.
Cold and miserable doesn't come close.
I'd love a Pinz but Armyphil says they are flinkin' unreliable and a nightmare to work on...I know where there are several ex-R&D ones festering on a lot in Guilford anyone wanna go recovering?

Biggest problem with the Noriker is that there were only 16 made and less than that still survive. The axles were also spesialy made for them so parts are a bit of a problem.

Well, they were initially designed (in the 50's/60s) for work on alpine farms and to replace the Haflinger horses there with machinery (hence the name) ...comfort didn't come into it

That's a Kubel/Schwimmwagen part isn't it?

Its off a very, very early split screen bus and is the same unit as the Kubelwagen. These were used as the 1.5 ton van only had a 25 hp flat four engine to push it along! They were used in production from 1950 -1953. Quite rare to find these units nowadays and were used in 'sporting trials' cars in the 70's. By then they leaked oil and were not capable of coping with much power. I used a set in the early 80's on a 'sporting trials' car powered by a 1600cc FVW engine and they didnt last very long!

When I say I'd love one...it's all relative. I've had vehicles that were worse to work on than the syncro. All British made...still got a soft spot for a late 2-door Strange Rover or even a FC101 Vampire camper conversion but even I recognise that it would be grounds for divorce
We don't talk about the Rank Rover anymore...in fact ever
