starter motor dieing?

Post by eatcustard »

When I fire up from cold, no problem at all

Fire up when hot, as in with 5 mins of last being used, I get a bang bang sound from the (i think) the starter motor, and sometimes it seems to turn over slow, battery and connections look good.

Otherwise the engine runs as sweet as a nut.

It is in for a oil/filter and Steering rack mount replacement next week, so any info to give the mechanic would help.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Starter motor bush

Little gismo in gearbox bellhousing that the floaty end of the starter motor fits into.

The little brass bush is cheap, but can be a sketch getting the old one out

I use a large easy out to get the old one out, and a bodged up G clamp to get the new one in.

Have fun

It's a Volkswagen thing

Cordialement,

the bush should be soaked for a good while in oil or if you put your thumb on the bottom fill it with oil then press your finger on the other end oil will seep out of the sides, its ready to go in then.

ive used a bolt that fits the inside of the bush and a nut wound on a bit to hold the thing and then just tap the bolt and drive the bush in, possiby chamfer the edge with a file to get it started
