front teves caliper dust seal one side won't fit!

hi there, i have a caliper, i have put the dust seal on one side and it went on. on the other side, it won't go on. there's a metal ring built into this dust seal, and it's no very stretchy as a result. i have tried lubing it, heating it in very hot water, and there's always about a 1mm gap were it won't go out the outer bore channel where it's supposed to sit. any time i get it on one side, the other side pops off. i could try gentle pliers to pull it on, but there's this built in metal ring. has anyone else come across this? it's highly annoying. they're fte automotive seal kit and it's a teves caliper.

bump! it's a caliper mystery. i have an early pre 86 van on a changeover. these appear to be alfred teves two pin fixed twin calipers but one side of the caliper outer bore is not liking the seal and the other side doesn't fit square either! the dust seals don't fit on right on one side, it's a 63mm teves caliper outer bore. the fte automotive measure 62mm! these seal kits are from GSF. there's a metal ring built in, no give to it whatsoever, and even pressing with piston retraction tool won't get them on! tried everything! fte automotive. not work. would the earlier bay window t2 caliper kits work on the t25? that kit i've been supplied is the only kit they do for the transporter on that particular year. one aftermarket kit available, one does all. maybe i have to change the calipers?

there's anohter seal kit for these, budweg. i might try a budweg seal kit ..

FTE is FAG, they made lots of stuff for VW.
I would be surprised if there was a problem with their parts, they are usually of the highest quality.

i measure the outer diameter as 63mm, the dust seal diameter - 62mm.

these seals might be amazing, with great resistance to heat, and hardwearing.

however, all that means nowt because this dust cover doesn't fit my caliper outer bore and it appears to be the only seal kit listed for early t25 vans. going to take the caliper in and try and sort this out tomorrow.

For reasons like this, we never, ever use rebuild kits, nor do we sell the parts.
For all the time and effort propping up some sh!tty old calipers you could have put some re-con ones on and had it working now, back on the road, guaranteed parts no messing.

not in any rush to get her back on the road right now or i would have gone the recon route. that's ok, you're entitled to your response. however, some of us just like a challenge and just want seals that fit the calipers we're buying them for.
