Now I don't know the van or what state it's in ...but if it's miles a way from from being perfect I'd just make it useable and use it and save all that "last ever" malarchy for a little private chuckle to myself every now and then.

Its light years away from being perfect ......

Now if that was mine (and I had the money to run a second or third vehicle) I'd stop the rust as much as possible, leave the dents, get the mechanics working and then use it for offroading.

No fancy interior, no shiney paint, just the bare minimum and then have fun with it. In this case the fact that it is the last of the Mohicans is neither here nor there ...might get you another 100 Euro a few years down the line when you sell it for a total restoration to some sucker who believers it's "special" but that's about all. IMO it would take far too much to make it good and presentable as the last ever RHD ...just use it a s a Syncro and that's that.

It's a TD, isn't it?
If you leave it empty and don't go nuts with massive tyres even the 1.6TD should be up to the job of having off-road fun ...saving you some more money for the conversion that you don't have to do.

This site sell Recip MT tyres in 185/80/14, stick them on it

and off you go
