Wiring in a radio / cd player
Can anyone help me out here? My Transportor came fitted with an aftermarket Kenwood KRC Radio / Cassette player (must be at least 15 years old); I've aquired a Blaupunkt Monte Carlo MP26 radio / CD player which unsurprisingly has a differing socket to that fitted to the Kenwood system. I've done some research into what's available out there but drawn a blank. It can't be rocket science...surely? Appreciate any advice, thanks in advance.

Get a Vw to bluepoint loom.
Or go to a car audio place and ask them to fit it.

It's pretty straightforward to fit - and I'm a novice - if you don't have the manual with the wiring they're all available online. When I changed mine recently it turned out that the more modern stereo I was putting in needed 2 12v power lines - 1 for the memory and 1 for the unit to run. Otherwise it will only stay on standby.

Thanks for all the advice, looks like I need a harness for starters to plug into the back of this player, and then work out where the leads at the end go. Took the leisure battery out a while back as it was dead and havent bothered with it since. A bit less weight to lug about too ha ha

Re: Wiring in a radio / cd player
you don't have to use a leisure battery, a starter battery will do for weekend use.... cheaper and it won't bother your ignition circuits

Re: Wiring in a radio / cd player
bought an iso std connector with flying leads from Halfords this morning; matched up leads no problem, but player wouldnt switch on!?!?
The red live (for the main positive power) from the ignition is ok as i checked it with a bulb, but not sure if there shouldnt be another live fron the loom for the memory back up connection?

Yes, it'll need 2 12v connections. You can take both from the same 12v supply. If you look at the instructions (all available online if you google) it'll show you which ones need a 12v supply.

In which case that means both the red (main positive power) & yellow (memory positive back up) leads coming from the connector block need to be wired into the red (live) lead in the van's loom.
Does that make sense??

Re: Wiring in a radio / cd player
Yep, that is correct, you do need both for the unit to switch on.
The usual setup us battery backup lead to a permanent live ie. straight from battery and the red lead to a switched supply ie. from ignition.
Both can be wired into a permanent supply so when you turn of the ignition you will still have the stereo available, or you can wire them both into a switched supply so the stereo is completly off when ignition is off but this will usually loose all preset settings when supply is interrupted.
