Electric Hookup quick question.

Hi all, I am just about to start revamping my electric hookup to replace much of the stuff Autohomes fitted in the 80's.
I have purchased a 3 pin hookup point to replace the original 2 pin one that has got two tiny fuses in the back which keep blowing. From this I will fit a 4 module IP55 consumer unit, from the 6amp mcb I will connect my zig cf8 and from the 10amp mcb I will connect a single socket. We rarely use hookup in summer but went camping a couple of weeks ago for 4 days and had a small fan heater for use in the awning & van as I figured it was all paid for it would save gas by not using the propex.
During this camp we had a lot of rain and a lot of electrical issues which got me looking at the original system and deciding it needs replacing.
Boring bit over, now my quick question. The original system has no common earth to the van body, should I connect everything up and run a common earth from the consumer unit to the vehicle body?
