Temp gauge finally sorted

Post by dansimpson »

Had problems with my temp gauge, wouldnt come up more than half of the white section at the bottom even in traffic or on long run. I was worried that it wouldnt give me an early indication of the engine starting to overheat, so I wanted to get it sorted.
I shorted the sender lead to earth and the gauge swung completely over to the right, so I bought a new sender unit, same thing.

Problem solved- poor earth between housing and engine block. Looks like when a new water pump was fitted its been "gasketed" so much that theres no decent contact.
Hard wired an extra earth from a housing bolt to the engine block, works loads better, just below half way on a run.
Sorted!
