Looking forward to 3 month euro trip 2011 in our American Westie which is currently with original wiring and obviously doesn't work here...
Can I keep wiring as is and plug a yellow site tranny on the outside when in use....
or is a re wire the only option...?

yes, but everything must work on 110 volts
Re: American westie - electric issue
Yep, i suppose the main thing would be not having to mess around with the 3 way fridge and the wiring...
I'm looking for the least costly way around this...I'd imagine that most electrical items I'd be looking to run off the hook up would be fine at 110v e.g phone charger, lap top will be fine with a plug adapter.....no?
I'm new to the bug thing, so please bare with me as I know very little about electrics or the van for that matter
Thanks for getting back ...

Re: American westie - electric issue
I have asked some folks what the best way is for you to hook up your Vanagon.
The consensus of opinion is to use a transformer..
you can read it all here... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... 07#4927907
