Big Bumper Fitting

Post by Titus A Duxass »

I've got a set of original big bumper (and side planks) to fit but am confused with regard to the extra brackets are necessary.
Can anyone clarify what bracketry is required to fit these type of bumpers?

I have found these on the bay for the front bumper - where do they go?

I've also found these for the rear bumper

Do I need anything else?

Nomoretustybits sell big bumpers with original fittings so you could always ask if they would sell you just the fittings

Are they not available from VW?

the two you found on ebay go ontop of the deform panel and the top of the front bumper rests on them, there are plates welded onto the outriggers for the bottom brackets to bolt to but you could make those once you've seen some, and the rear bumper irons are different with internal fittings and there are lots of little packers and brackets to attach the rear sides, some of the bits are still available from vw and or classic

Cruz - thanks but your Brickyard link is for side plank fittings not bumpers.

Aidan - cheers, that's the sort of information that I was after. Snozzy gave me a pair of rear bumper irons.

I wander over to the VW main stealers and rustle up the rest of the bits.

You need some of these for the packing on the rear brackets:

"now that would be one of those rubbery things that sit on the end of metally things!!!"

I've got a pair of these

Apparently they are welded to the crush/deform structure at the front so that the mounts don't "burst" through the big bumpers.

Anyone got a pic of them installed?
