Think it can be around 5% but would have thought the wedge would be more tolerant compared to complex computer-controlled modern engines. When I first got into beetles you could still get 3 star which they ran on fine - and not much else did, reason why it was phased out I guess. Same with gas conversions, much easier to convert our engines than many others, particularly the softer alloys used in some. The v-dub engine is fairly 'agricultural' really, by modern standards.

Ethanol has been in petrol for a long time... just been used as an octane booster, just the gov C most has min of 5% and some has 10% in the uk.. of course else where its available in higher ratio's...
E85 is available widely in europe.. not so common here...

What you need to do is make sure the fuel lines are fresh and of good quality, as ethanol extracts some components from the rubber... Cange the fuel filter regularly.. Ethanol, also it absorbs water so its worth sticking a little 2 srtoke oil in a petrol tank (metal as 2wd ones are) if laying the vehicle up for a few months..

Ethanol works very well in higher performance engines.. as its more stable..
