Reservoir top LH side engine
Morning
Have just bought a 1982 T25 which has a 1.9tdi engine fitted. Had a poke around the engine which seems OK. However can't find the dipstick and there is a reservoir attached to the RH side of the engine bay which is totally empty. Does anyone know what this reservoir is for? Sorry its a bit vague - used to tinker with my cars but that was twenty years ago and seems that everything is now forgotten. Did 450 miles on its first trip so not a bad start!

On an unfettled original engine that reservoir should be the main coolant reservoir (pressurised) and the dipstick should be behind the numberplate flap.
On a converted engine all bets are off, depending on who did the conversion

I'd say it was, seeing as you have no coolant in the dang thing

This reservoir isn't pressurised. Also if it was the coolant wouldn't the temperature gauge have gone over half way?

Ah.. I think I assumed you were suggesting the header tank which is pressurised... whereas it seems you were writing about the top up tank.
neither should be empty, the header should be full to the brim with coolant and the tank you are on about should be between the MAX and MIN mark with coolant.

This tank does not exist on a standard jx, cs or ky diesel engine ... not in this shape or in this position.

Re: Reservoir top LH side engine
Thats not a TDi - it has a mechanical pump on it (well, unless it is a TDi with a mechanical pump on it!?!) - I guess it will be an AAZ TD - be more likely a 1995 donor, not a 2005 though
No idea what that tank is, doesn't look like it has a Charge cooler on it which it could have been...
Think you'll have to ask previous owner...

Re: Reservoir top LH side engine
Vid helps , youve got the expannsion bottle on the right next to the battery this should be full full and even more full see wiki,
you should have a top up bottle behind the no plate flap but its not oin sight??
I see the small hose coming from the exp bottle and running towards the no plate but it also looks to be going to the black bottle on the left (n/s) so perhaps this is being used as the top up?
