replacing cam seal/intermediate shaft and crank seal seals

Post by matt brighton »

Hi

1.6 CS engine - 1982 diesel devon conversion

Has anyone here replaced one or more of the above oil seals - is it a difficult / big job ? and tips welcome

Im doing the cam belt soon and as the camper drips a bit of oil considering doing what seals I can whilst im there

Done a search and looked on wiki but nothing 1.6D specific

Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi Matt
Did you get your cam belt and crankshaft seal done? I'm trying to pluck up the courage to get my '83 CS cambelt changed. Haven't done one before but been swotting up. Apart from the usual concerns about getting the timing wrong etc, my immediate worry is the lack of space to get a spanner in about my rusty looking crankshaft pulley. I can't even see the front of it. I presume its best to do it from underneath by taking the bottom covers off? Would be interested to know how you tackled it. Also did you make tool, as on wiki, for the cam sprocket when you loosen the bolt?
Any advice much appreciated
Neil

Not yet... but I hope to later this month and will post how I got on.

And will be getting the belt and seals from simon at brickwerks as he is mentioned as stocking quality spares

I just had to do a job twice on a rover 75 due to buying cheap component off e bay
