Handbrake light coming on sporadically

Post by SamD »

Hi again,

In the last week pretty much since its got really cold the handbrake light keeps coming on and off sometimes staying on for a minute or so when the handbrake is definitely off (I've checked don't worry). I can't smell any heating/burning smells and the wheels don't feel hot as if the brake has been applied whilst the van is moving. My fuel consumption seems a little higher also but then the van is old and it hates cold starts (does produce whitish smoke on first start of the day) regardless of the manual choke.

Is it just a faulty wire/connection or something worse?

Thanks

Check the brake fluid level, I think it's a combined warning light.
If the level is okay I would sporadically ignore the Handbrake Light.

For the cold start issue - if it's a diesel (you haven't said) check your glow plugs and glow plug fuse.
