Hi i am looking for new van insurance at the moment and they want me to fit a immobiliser on the van, can any one recommend a manufacture / supplier. or would a cut out switch do the job.
Re: immobiliser
Any as long as it's thatcham approved and fitted. They come with a fitting certificate that your insurance company will want.pieman1 wrote:Hi i am looking for new van insurance at the moment and they want me to fit a immobiliser on the van, can any one recommend a manufacture / supplier. or would a cut out switch do the job.
Mine did not insist on one and do not give any discount for having one
You could also fit a cut out switch in a place only you know but nobody is going to tell you where their's is on an open forum
You can also remove an ignition lead and streering wheel

Re: immobiliser
As noted, no one can really advise on specifics but essentially all you're doing is stopping the 'would be' who breaks a window, forces a door than hot wires your camper and is away. Your job is to make starting it damned difficult. How you do that is up to you but you can achieve a result with a hidden switch. Consider any cabling that supplies engine bay and ways to interrupt that. I have advised a couple on here directly but I think the above should point you in the right direction. Mind you, if its towed or trailered away, you've had it anyway. Just make things as difficult as you can.
I should add, I do have an alarm too but how many take notice of them? I have a lot more confidence in the switch to be honest The alarm, at best, just scares away opportunist kids but won't deter a pissed up idiot looking for a cheap taxi home on the way back from the pub or someone intent on rifling your cupboards or levering out your Binatone stereo. Keep valuables indoors and make it at least impossible to start!
