Swivel Seat Question....& Sorry!!!.......

Post by bertnuggit »

The Swivel seat question, its been asked before, but maybe someone has been in the same situation as me...I've bought a swivel base from Just Kampers for my T25, it arrived (very heavy!) with nuts & bolts but no instructions...Scouring the net for advice - I either remove the seat & attach to swivel base (base bolted to the original seat runners), or I need to remove the original welded seat runners (hope not)?

My T25 has original VW seats, the seat runners are welded to the base box...I'll start by removing seat (looks simple in my Haynes) ... Can anyone assist me further?? Has anyone got a diagram where to attach the supplied bolts etc ? :?

Welcome to the Forum :ok

If these are the same as the standard VW/Westy bolt-in ones you remove the seat from the van, turn the swivel through 30-odd degrees and you should see the holes in the corners of the bottom plate, they should line up with holes in the runners already in the van. There should be captive nuts supplied to slide along the inside of the original runners and then simply bolt the swivel down, slide seat onto new runners et voila, mange toute :pimp

Hello Again & Thanks for the replies!!!

Sorry for being rude & jumping straight into questions before intruducing myself.....you know what its like when you get a camper, you discover problems & get a bit obsessed trying to sort them out - thats me anyway!

I got my camper last month (my old T25 was stolen in June - look out for B476 UKO, white, pop-up, Villa Conversion!! No name for my new one yet (Red T25, Leisuredrive Crusader, side lifter roof) - its at a local garage sorting an oil leak etc & I haven't bonded with it yet!! I'll post some choice photos when I get it back.....

I live in Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire....I'm no mechanic but I wish I was......Once the van is running properly I'll sort out the paintwork, I've been reading about the roller technique and think I'll give it a go, only problem is my van is too high to get in the garage so its stuck outside.........

I've attached a photo of me with the camper!!

I was trying to sort a running problem, turned out to be an Amp under the passenger seat!

Hi there,

I have recently fitted the same Just Kampers swivels to my Caravelle. Very amusing watching the delivery man pick them up, not realising they weigh more than 10kg

Just as Ian says, you remove the seat and place the new swivel base on top of the runners lining up with four holes already in the original seat runners (sliding the top piece to 30 degrees or so first). Push the two nuts into the front of the runners and tighten the bolts (on on each side). At the back you have two nuts welded to a flat bar which you slide into the runner and line up with the hole and then put in the bolt and tighten.

I think the reason for the two bolts at the back is to work with the T2 buses too. I decided to drill a hole in the runner and put the other bolt in as well as I had it (and as there were no instructions I thought it best to be sure!).

Best thing is adding some grease to the new runners so I can move the seat without a lump hammer :P Oh, and the swivelling of course!

Good luck.

Noggintom - I've spotted your response after fitting my swivel base. Yes, they're heavy! The extra bolts confused me but its done.

Not as thorough a job as yours though, I didn't drill holes for extra bolts or grease the runners.....I'm thinking of drilling a hole in the plate so the seat locks when facing back wards as well as forwards. :)

Really to do the job right they should be at least 8.8 or 'high tensile', the countersunk ones that come with VW/Westy ones are 12.9 (mild steel is 4.6 IIRC)

Thank god for this thread.

I have to confess to being a bit bamboozled by my swivel base also.

Hi, I had the same thoughts fitting mine from just kampers. You think the muppets would put some instructions to stop you wondering what these extra bits are for !! If memory serves me correctly I ended up drilling a couple of holes out and fitting extra bolts anyway - belt and braces job :pimp
