Oddly enough it never entered my head - it just seemed obvious to me that you would have your head at the tailgate end like a headboard and some lights to read by. Perhaps we've been doing it wrong for the past few years, but personally I think it feels the right way to be.....

What a long strange trip it's been

I suppose that the way you get in and, the way you get out come into this discussion.
For example when we are both in bed I find it easier to "extract" myself without disturbing swmbo if I am feet to tailgate, but I have to say it is easier getting in if you are head to tailgate.
Forget about rust or gearbox or engine probs, this seems far more complex a subject

I find the bed moves less while I'm on it if I am head to the tail gate, plus it is easier to get into that way, especially if you have company

6' 2" tall here, so head at the tailgate and feet hanging off the other end, every time

Re: Poll:which way do you sleep?
Always used to do it normally (head to tailgate) until this year's holiday on Western Isles with 1 year old on parcel shelf bed. This forced us to change around.
At 6'3" I was concerned at not fitting, but found it was better as my feet did not hang out the end in the cold.
