Exhaust Silencer
Evening all!
I've a 1985 T25 left hooker with an exhaust problem. To get my van thru its MOT I had to have a new silencer fit to the van. The guy at the garage had a bit of a moan about how difficult it had been to hang the silencer, although "he had managed". Two weeks ago I was on my way to work in the van and the bloody thing broke away. The garage had fixed the silencer to its mount with one hanger to the right hand side whilst the weight of the left hand side was supported by the manifold pipe that it was connected to. This manifold pipe, being pretty heavily corroded has cracked and the silencer is now left hanging by the right hand hanger. The exhaust silencer is this one as found on the Just Kampers site. http://www.justkampers.com/shop/t25_gb/ ... 10104.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've been having a look at universal silencer hangers like this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Exhaust-Parts-Uni ... 40ff47bab6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
Has anyone any ideas where I can bolt the other end on? Are there any engine mounts or anything else I can bolt it to? Can I drill into the engine bearer, or should I try to clamp the clamp with another clamp onto the bearer (if you know what I mean)? Will the exhaust cover plate bear the weight if I fix it to that?
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks

Re: Exhaust Silencer
I think you should get some new box carriers. Not something from Forrest Gumps legs
They are obsolete now but try your local VW parts centre.
Or you could buy second hand ones ..they are not that expensive try Billy 739
Or there's new from Brickyard... http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... ory_id=103" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Exhaust Silencer
I always fix somewhere to the engine, that way as the engine moves on its mounts, the exhaust moves with it and therefore not under stress. I had a similar prob on mine but used a bungee attached to a clamp around exhaust box.

Re: Exhaust Silencer
Essentially you just need to use a strap of metal that will go round the box and fasten that to a suitable place on engine block

Thanks v much - if you have some exhaust mounts I'll gratefullyy take them off your hands. Are you sure that you don't want anything for them? PM me your details for postage etc. As for fixing them, the missus is expecting Monday, so I'm more at the the research point as opposed to the doing point at this stage!
