A few questions from a newbie!
Hi there,
Firstly, sorry I am not a very active member of the forum, Im more of a lurker
I have a few questions, I have used the search function, and skimmed the wiki, but to no avail.
I have a '83 T25 with solid top. She's my baby, Im totally head over heels with her, I have had no troubles at all with her so far, except for one problem, when I am plugged into the mains, and switch it to be able to have lights etc on, my tap continually runs, there is no on/off tap, and I cannot find any switches/knobs to turn inside the camper. I am aware I can probably turn it off from outside, but honestly I don't want to be constantly in and out!
Am I being completely thick, is there something really obvious I am missing?
I am new to this and trying to sort it out without my OH interfeering (he is not VW friendly)
The camper has previously been adapted with mains plugs as a new addition, and from what I can see a lot of wires, is there any chance there could be some cross wiring going on that is upsetting my water pump?
Also, my nearest Aircooled specialist is wrigleys Aircooled in owestry, does any one have any experience with these, I'd like to pop up to ask a few questions, but Im kinda worried that because Im young and female I may get fobbed off slightly and end up paying a fortune.
Another question (my last I promise) Where is the best place to find a gas canister, I am struggling locally to find one that is small enough to fit into the allocated cupboard, Im thinking I may have to re-direct my gas pipes so I can use a different canister, but If anyone had any advice about finding a small one I would really appreciate it!
Thanks so much for you help kellye x

I don't understand how switching to 240v would make the tap run so I can't really advise on that. However I've met Crispin and the lads at Wrigleys and they're absolutely spot on. I would happily take my Bus there if they weren't at the wrong side of the country.

Re: A few questions from a newbie!
How much space have you got for the gas cannister?
Re: A few questions from a newbie!
Hi thanks for the response.
I will give wrigleys a go then, if I can't sort these problems out myself.
The tap literally hasnt got a tap as such, it is just a spout that the water comes out of, here is a picture (excuse the dirt)

Also the cupboard in which the gas canister should go is 13 inches high and 8.5 inches wide, Im aware I can change the regulator, which is currently a screw top, but I would rather not have to re-direct the hosing if I can help it.
Thanks again!

Re: A few questions from a newbie!
The cupboard was probably built to accomodate the 907 blue butane bottle with screw top.
So how do you tell your pump to work when you're NOT hooked up? Have you got a Zig unit or similar installed?

Re: A few questions from a newbie!
The on-off for your tap could be a "button" on the floor. You would normally stand on it to turn on the pump. If this "button" has been squashed it might be "on" all the time. Have a look at the floor in front of the sink and see if there's a button?
Most camping sites or caravan dealers should do a 907 bottle. The first time you "buy" one is expensive because you actually buy the bottle. After that you just exchange empty bottles for full ones so only pay for the gas. Don't be tempted to get a 4.5kg bottle because they will only fit in if they're laid on their side and this could let liquid gas into the regulator.

Wow, ya know what, there is this white wedge shaped plastic thingy on the floor by the cupboard below the sink, I think that may be it!! I just assumed before that it was some kind of wedge, like a cupboard wedge, typical blonde huh?! Im going to hook up tomorrow and see, I will keep you posted!
Im so sorry to ask such stupid questions but it's totally new to me (lovin every minute though)
As for the gas bottle Im going to take a drive to some local recycling places, and see if I can find a second hand one, if not I will try the nearest camping/caravan place.
Thanks!

It might be worth asking the VW place about a gas bottle as well. If they buy & sell vans they might have salvaged some?

Ok, so that button is the on/off button however it stays on constantly, and only stops when my foot is on it, and I have tinkered about with it and it doesn't appear to be jammed so Im guessing there is something wrong electrical wise. Im going to talk to my dad about it and see if he can fix it for me Thanks so much for your help!

Re: A few questions from a newbie!
If the tap goes off when you press your foot on the switch it would suggest that the polarity is reversed..switch the wires at the switch and see if that does it. Disconnect at battery(s) and mains first
