Re: Solex Carb Hell !!
Ok
with all that what we have discussed is working correctly, and that your jets are clear and the float hight is correct ... I have run the course of my knowledge.
For the settings you need the help of a member who has had more experience than me.
....and I still think you have an air leak!
good luck

C'mon folks help this lad out!

Water-cooled, but I know this is not the original engine, the guy before me had a recon engine fitted but he assured me (as they do !) that it was the correct engine & set up etc

Re: Solex Carb Hell !!
Right .. I could say do yourself a favour and try to get a pierburg 2e3 from a T3, bolt on goodness ..it will liberate a bit of power too being a twin choke.
you'll need a manifold and some hose, heads and stuff though.
but thats assuming you can get all the relevant stuff to go with it, we can help, but need you to tell us what you have already.
Pierburgs were also fitted to Astra MKIII Cavalier MKIII., the Astra 1.6 jetting was very close to the VW Jetting.

Re: Solex Carb Hell !!
Ok thanks. I've spoken to a guy who has diesel T25's & knows a bit more a bout them & he reckons I should have a compression test done before going on, his thinking is to rule out any other causes before getting into areas that don't need tinkering with. I still lean towards a carb problem, what do you reckon ?

Re: Solex Carb Hell !!
Well chaps, thanks loads for the help but I have now resolved thte problem, believe it or not it turned out to be a faulty plug/HT lead that was breaking down under load. Obviously I only found this out after paying for a compression test, which was all good, stripping the carb completely & cleaning EVERYTHING & then banging my head against a T25 rear door for an hour, she now runs like a dream & has taught me to check ignition systems just as closely for a power loss problem !
thanks again everyone, the help was seriously appreciated

Re: Solex Carb Hell !!
Yes you're right, it is the right one for a DF and early DGs
I think most DGs had Pierburgs
M0cki was asking for picture earlier so we could be sure how it was mounted I imagine... we have the occasional faze

Re: Solex Carb Hell !!
well i did try to get some sort of clarifycation when i asked for the pics....
however.... if it is a df carb, it must be on a df manifold, which means a different water system, and more importantly different heads, the port size is smaller, so no matter what the code is stamped on the casing, if its got df heads, its a df!

and doesn't breath as well as a DG.
Maybe DG heads and manifolds for the future then...
