Is there anyone out there whos fitted new off the shelf empi GT5 spoke to a t3.
I need to know if they are ok, only when reading info on the ideal wheels for the van, it looks like a bad idea to fit wheels with a et of less than 30. These empi gt5 spoke wheels are et20 is this bad or will they be fine
Hope somone has some fitted and can tell me from the horses mouth
Jim
I wasn't sure they'd suit, but did see some at the weekend and thought they looked ok. Particularly the black GT5 -
However the specs seem to be:
Fitment: 5/112
Size: 5.5 x 15
Offset: ET12 for the BRM or ET20 for the GT5 or "frell".
These offsets seem a little small and I really want ones that fit properly. They were insistent that they were fine though! what does everyone think?
Cheers
Jane
well me and my dad have got them on both vans and cant fult them merc wheels are smart if your handy with a drill to make the wheel nut holes a little bit bigger, and porsche wheels very smart but the you've got the cost of finding a nice set that another vw owner is'nt bidding on also you have to buy adapters. not saying these are bad idea i just like a wheel that fits no messin.
I agree, that's what I'm looking for, one's I can fit with no hassle! I've been having a discussion about the differing offsets on another post (https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=74573) and have finally come to the conclusion that a bit less than ET30 is still ok.
I think those wheels look pretty good on your van! I've decided to go for the Ronal R42 as they come with a TUV certificate that they are suitable for a T25.

Just for information.
The rims are only TüV approved if they are fitted with the tyre quoted on the Gutachten - which are 3% smaller than the originals.

Is that a problem do you think? or is that the best option - to get the size recommended on the configurator? I'm not sure what you mean by 3% smaller. Do you mean the overall diamater of the tyre will be smaller than when the original wheels were fitted, as I already realised that they have to have a much lower profile as it's a bigger wheel.

I don't think it will be a problem in the UK.
The overall diameter is 3% smaller and that means you will rev a bit higher for the same speed.
I've got Empi 5's on my T25 Crewie, were fitted when I bought it,been on 5 years to my knowledge,I aint dead yet ! (may sell em next week, poss upgrade comming) oh and it's down 60mm an all !

I've now been told that in the reccomended tyre (225/45R17) they only come in load rating 94 and not commerically rated. I'm concerned that's not high enough!
It's easier to pick up a set of Mercedes ML 16" off ebay,
They fit without having to bore out holes, etc.
Naturally you need longer studs/bolts and spacers.
I've just brought a set of 15'' Empi's from my nephew and have just checked the offset which has an ET12, they came from Midland Wheels. I haven't fitted them yet but feel rather concerned that I'm going to get problems. My brother-in-law has fitted the same wheels to his van and has been running about for the last 2 years with no problems at all.
Am I heading into a world of pain? The wheels I have match the van brilliantly and I would really like to fit them.
Hi, my current wheels are et 22 and no problems yet im running 205/65 16 lowered 40mm . My previous van had cheese wheels and they were copies. No problems with them either. I am not recomending either as maybe ive been lucky. I like empi's but after what ive read on here the good advice would be theyre not the correct load rate and the casting isnt the best so avoid them.most merc wheels are very well made. If your buying second hand buy without tyres. I was had on a set of split rims, took the tyres off one was egg shaped and repaired inside with car filler so I crushed them. I didnt get the wheels on 8090 may I add.
