I hate to say it, but... You have to be either rich or stupid (or both to fork out 1,600 quid for for a couple of tube bends and a couple of brackets "that need work". Shoot, I have bought, in the past, a two syncros for half that money!

Time to pull out the tube bender and dust it off

Its too much money really but its the most complete genuine VW unit I have seen on e bay, it even has the bits that go inside for the hinges and you rarely see them for sale. I think you'll need a little more than a tube bender to make one of those as there is after all only one bend!

Somewhere someone is very happy!

With today's modern Cnc, mandrell tube benders you could knock those out no probs. All you need is a pattern. I used to make tuned-length racing car exhausts using the age old process of sand filling and flame bending, which would work for these carriers also. Even using that antiquated process you could make one with little drama. I just don't get how something so basic commands such a high price. I guess money has moved in to type 25s also. It won't be long before average joe gets priced out of the Market, just like Splits and Bays. Bah humbug!

The slightly more complicated bits are the body mounting brackets/blocks and the lock handle. These could be milled.

I guess they command such high prices because they are limited numbers and genuin, look at what judson super chargers go for if its complete with the magneto oiler jar and so on.
Some one will always pay top dollar for gen parts.
