Vacuum hose 2 litre Aircooled help

Post by 81AirCooled »

HI all, I've got a hose that comes from the air filter to the top of the left hand carb that needs replacing. I've measured it at 14mm one end and 12mm at the other. Problem is I can't source any vacuum hose on the internet which is larger than 12mm.

Does anyone know if I can buy this as a part or do I just use some bog standard 12mm vacuum hose?
Thanks

Hi mate,

thats not vacuum hose I don't think.....vacuum hose very thin....more like a tiny air line. I think that is probably a breather hose...just a rubber tube. But I may be very wrong, and stand to be corrected....

You'll probably get 12mm on to both parts if its softened in warm water first.

Any piece of hose with a nitrile liner will do. You want a nitrile liner because it won't be effected by any oil mist from the crankcase breather that also feeds into the air-box. Just check the size of the spigots the pipe pushes over and make sure they're different sizes, it might be that one end has just stretched a bit. As Covkid says you should be able to get a 12mm pipe over a 14mm spigot. Normally a dab of oil and a circular motion is all you need to get it in. Failing that you could use a stanley knife to chamfer the leading edge of the bore to help in over the spigot. Try to get hold of a piece about 3" longer than the original. That will let the pipe take a more natural curve and stop it collapsing on the bend.
