Help identifying engine leak/s

Post by bj.rocke »

Hi all, just wondering what you think this leak is. I think its coming from the oil pump, but just wanted to make sure before i take everything apart lol

In the photos the leak appears to be coming from A and dripping down to B. Would an oil pump leak also effect the area C?

Also while i was under the engine i notice this around the gearbox... is this bad and whats causing this? i dont have any problems changing gear etc.

Crank pully seals are putting oil over your monting bar and engine front which is most common... and on the gearbox it could be leaking from the bell housing so that's either flywheel crank seal or gearbox input shaft seal.

All easy to do with the engine out, which again, is easy to do on rear engined VW's.
