Thought I'd give a quick update as I've finally got the van it's english registration plates (thanks DVLA)!

Good news - the fault that was upsetting the previous owner so much was simply a broken wire on the temperature sender to the 'Digifant' box. Fixed that and it runs like a dream.

Bad news - had to be collected by the rescue services from the side of a motorway when the accelerator cable snapped........

New cable ordered from JK and hoping it's easy to fit - there's no mention of refitting in the Haynes manual! (Does anyone know of a better manual or have any tips on how to do this? Mine is left hand drive)

Also I've detected a bit of nervousness about importing these vehicles from Germany - if anyone needs any advice please ask however, it's really quite easy. If you're driving it back you'll need transit plates - you buy these at special offices that are open only usually in mornings and only some days at that; or easier, trailer it back and call the DVLA who will send you some forms - can't download them as they're on carbon paper- at this stage mine became exceptionally easy as camper vans get special exemptions - you don't need garage receipts to prove that you've fitted the proper headlights etc. Then send the DVLA the form, MOT, insurance, VAT declaration form and any papers from the previous owner with proof of age and they'll either ask more questions or send you the new registration number and V5.

Jeremy.

PS. I am forgetting the letter I've received from the German Embassy asking for 35 sterling to de-register it, has anyone else had this - and if so - did you send them the money???

Thats odd, I've brought in two Syncros from Germany on export plates and never got any letters. I bet the last owner didn't de register or transferred it into your name it so I wouldn't bother.
