Hi everyone,
Decided to replace my spark plugs at 6pm tonight, whilst rushing against the failing daylight I appear to have pulled a thin plastic tube off from somewhere. My engines a 1.9 petrol 1989, one tube goes from the air filter box into a black plastic cover in the engine bay wall O/S, the other (nearest the carb) now goes nowhere. I've driven up and down the road and can't tell any differance. Has anyone any idea where it should go, Ta Paul

Re: Vacuum pipes ?
That pipe should come from the air-box, and tee off to the carb balance pipe that runs across the engine bay bulkhead, and the inside of the vac can on the dizzie. The other one off the air-box goes to the warm air flap on the air intake. The one off the outer side of on the vac can goes to the left hand carb.
I think this is right

Re: Vacuum pipes ?
on mine - 1990 - water cooled - petrol - 1915cc -
facing the carb -
l h breather pipe from behind carb - goes to side of distributor -
r h breather pipe from behind carb goes to top of air filter box (fits into the left hand one) -
the one on the right on the air filter box has another breather pipe attached to it that disappears out of engine on the rh side -
gawd knows where
hope u find the right connection -

Re: Vacuum pipes ?
Sorted! it was the left hand pipe that had come adrift, I found a rubber tube behind the carb and the vacuum pipe pushed in there,

A person willing to learn and perform scheduled maintenance or simple repairs on their own vehicle rather than being completely reliant on technicians who may be dishonest, careless, or ignorant.
Many automakers have realized that dealer service is profitable and have designed vehicles to be irreparable by independent or shade tree mechanics.

Hi again Edoh,
Its amazing how you soon get used to not getting your hands dirty, I'm a landscape gardener and have always been into Land Rovers, I've put engines in them, Gear boxes, axles you name it but since I bought a 2005 Ford Ranger I've only had to change the oil. I've enjoyed tinkering with the VW, I've always wanted one since I was 17, took me till the age of 40 to get one!, all the best Paul
