Is this a Brake Fluid Leak ??

Noticed a small puddle of oil in footwell There are 2 nuts behind brake pedal which feel oily too. (see pics).
Plenty of brake fluid in the reservoir. Any ideas?

probably the master cylinder.if it is.it will need replacing..

OK, my ten penneth is on a weeping clutch master cylinder

Not difficult to replace or hideously expensive.

Hi, did you find out what was causing this?? I am having the exact same problem.

I assumed master cylinder was leaking, but cant actually feel any fluid around the M/S itself , the clutch did start making a funny noise (pedal end) the other day so now i am thinking slave cylinder???

Any help much appreciated!

Mine too!!!
Its definately my brake master cylinder, cos it was almost empty, but looked like it was coming from the bolt right at centre of pic.....

Looks like fun to change too!!

If the brake fluid level has gone down below the level of the clutch take-off pipe then it's you brake master cylinder.
Just replaced mine as it wasn't too well. Not a bad job, bit messy so use rags underneath when taking out old one!
Brake fluid doesn't normally leak on the floor though, it will usually leak through into the servo unit. It can leak from here if the servo unit fills up with enough fluid but you would have been topping up the fluid resorvior quite a bit before it got to that stage!
The clutch master cylinder can leak straight away with almost no noticeable loss in the resorvior.

maybe I have a burst pipe then, I topped up the fluid and it emptied onto the floor. Will look with a torch tomorrow. How do you access it easily?

Access by removing the dashboard instrument cover, then the instruments themselves. Remove cover by gently lifting up at the back (near windscreen). Instruments are held in place by 4 screws (one in each corner). There is an electrical connector on the back of the instrument panel which should be disconnected.
You then have full access to the resorvior and brake master cylinder and clutch take off pipe.

I have light leak onto the floor via the rubber boot on the steering shaft.

It is coming from a bolt just above, and dripping on a clear hose exiting on a banjo just above the clutch pedal.

There is no noticeable loss from the reservoir so I'm not too concerned I tightened the bolt which was already tight.

Presumably if the tightening does not work I guess I'll have to remove and re-seal the bolt.

I can't find any serious diagram of this part and would expect a large release of fluid.

will this need a totla re- bleed or just a re-top up or the reservoir?
