Do you have rear belts in your Autosleeper ?

Post by earlybay »

None in mine at the moment but has anyone got a pic of where theirs are mounted in the rear - even if its just lap belts ? Im assuming there must be mount points under the rear seat but cant find them - they were there on my old Caravelle ....

Hi,

I'm hopefully getting 2 3-point rear seatbelts installed in my 1980 T25 High-top in a few weeks as I need them so my kids car seats will fit.

It's gonna be expensive but worth it, i'll let you know what they do once it's done.

Oh just noticed you're in Paddock Wood me too
I asked for a car, I got a computer. How's that for being born under a bad sign?

Caravelle body shells have them panel vans don't, you can improvise by welding the mounting plates into the body. Our rear lapbelts are bolted through the body at the top of the ramp with HT bolts and thick re-inforcing steel plate washers. The tester laughed and said they are a very long way over the standard of the factory fitted belts.

Have a look at these pics, not very conclusive, but they'll give you an idea.

Form what we've been told there's just enough room (legally) to have three lap belts.

Mine's an Autohomes but for what it's worth this is how they fitted two lapbelts.

The steel plates behind the mounts is about 4mm thick. If you widen the centre plate and double belts up on individual mountings I can't see any reason you can't fit three.

Out of interest............

I don't have rear belts in my camper.........obviously from safety point of view it's not wise to sit in the rear without belts but anyone know what's the law on this?

is a passenger allowed to travel in rear without them?

If they are not fitted at the factory
you don't have to fit them.

I choose not to fit them and folks who sit in the back are not breaking the law
