EXHAUST REPLACEMENT

Post by skyblue79 »

Just had my van in at a garage yesterday and was advised my whole system was kippered and in need of a whole re-fit - 1.9 <85 watercooled petrol enginge.

I've done some research on bits, prices, stainless and mild steel, etc, but the main problem is the cost. I'm not really savvy with car repairs and garage quotes seem to be around £600 mark at least. :? :ok

I want to take it somewhere i know it will get done properly - does anyone know the best place vw place to take it to in the midlands area? I'm based in coventry. Also if there is anyone local who has the know-how and tools i'd be happy for them to do it and happy to pay.

Thanks

Phil

Stainless is more expensive but it will last longer. Tbh even a mild steel system will cost you a pretty penny and you have the added pleasure of watching that investment slowly crumble away over the next 3-4 years :?

You don't say what type/year yours is. Rare whole lot goes, often the silencer - look in exhausts in WIKI. Or, if you have the early box you're welcome to my old one, its solid and a lot cheaper than a new one. I'm in Cov - well, obviously :D - off the Binley road. Chickenkoop is up Walsgrave.

My entire early system is on borrowed time. My silencer is only 3/4 years old.

Sorry guys forgot to mention its an <85 model so the early exhaust system.
It's been up on a ramp at an exhaust centre (not a Vdub garage) and they gave me the bad news.

When i brought then van in 2007 it had a new gold VEGE engine installed and not much miles done on it - though the van has done over 200k miles!! Looks like the original exhaust or another crappy one was fitted perhaps when the engine was replaced....

hope that sheds some more light.....

Hi CovKid

I'm on the binley road too - just near the bullshead pub. Would it be ok to bring the van over one day for a lookover?

Well we must be within throwing distance then cos I too live near the pub - I'm about all week. I only have the silencer but it was too good to just dump. You on the Bullshead side or Empress buildings? Have PM'd you

Take no notice of Kev, he's just a common Brummy :rofl

By the way, now you've found me and Chickenkoop, you shouldn't need a garage - what we can't sort we make.

I know Kev, pulling your leg. Wolverhampton is hardly Brum and you might not even be a local lad. I was actually born in Nuneaton, brought up in Cov then lived in Essex for 25 years then came back to Cov - boy have I got a weird accent.... :rofl

Midlanders think I'm a cockney, southerners a Brummie!!!
