sorry me again
my push rod tubes need doing i know i can do them in situ , when i put the rocker shafts back on , will i need to reset the hydraulic tappets or will they re set them selves
also the garage said that the rings on 1 and 2 are worn,(that would explain not much power at lower end), can i do this with the engine in the car if i remove the tin, as i dont really want to have to remove the whole unit, would you advise just rings or rings and barrels thanks again gary

Take the engine out, it takes about an hour to have a CU on the floor, and that's being carefull (but having to grind off the engine mounting bar bolts/nuts)

You'll be bad tempered to say the least if you try it in situ - no room, gaping cuts in knuckles, crooked neck, need I go on

Pushrod seals easy on yours however as its an Aircooled and doesn't need heads removed to get them out.

Hello,

I've just been down this route, and would say that when you remove your rockers, lay every thing out in order, ie pushrod tubes and so on.

Park the engine in TDC no 1 cylinder, distributor on mark.

Change the outer tubes, and then reassemble everything in order. I think you will find no adjustment necessary.

Be careful when you put the pushrods back in and ensure that they really have seated properly into the recess on the top of the hydraulic tappets.

Turn the engine over by hand, (24 mm socket in rear fan) to make sure everything is moving correctly.

Button up and give it a try.

If you are really going to pistons / rings.PLEEEEEEEASE drop the engine. It's really not hard.

Why do half the motor, pistons come in sets of 4, fit an economy set with cylinder barrels, that way youll get to use nearly all of the gasket set

if you want to fit new hydraulic tappets seals and tubes i have all these parts brand new for one side of a cu engine
