What is 'Final Drive'?

I'm having a read-up on gearboxes to try and fathom out what's in my van's (a 2.1dj) replacement gearbox. It's a 1.6TD box and the data gives a final drive figure, however the original 'box does not have a final drive figure. Why's that then?
