Making a Devon Bog Box
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c229/ ... vonbox.jpg
I'm going to get someone I know who's handy with wood to knock me up a Devon toilet box
I have seen the plan from the wiki above and have a few questions.for anyone who has one or has made one
1) Is the seat/lid on hinges or does it just fit snugly on top? Surely a hinged seat would be easier?
2) What can I use to possibly make the frame for supporting the extra buddy seat?
3) Which portaloo fits nicely in the box and is at a good height so your legs don't catch on the sides of the box but the lid will still close?
cheers
Shame Kevs picture of the finished article doesn't work

Re: Making a Devon Bog Box
Cruz,
I'm assuming they are simila to the westy bog box so have a look at the 3rd or 4th down on here for sizes of bogs

Re: Making a Devon Bog Box
Hi Cruz
Got an original one on my van. Size of wooden frame is 54w x 49.5d x 44.5h. Seat top is about 10cm deep (nicely upholstered!)
The lid isn't hinged and just lifts off. If it was hinged it wouldn't fold back far enough as the table is normally stowed between the bog box and back of passenger seat.
Frame for fold out seat is made of half inch square section steel. It's two rectangular frames, one frame hinges off buddy seat, the other frame hinges from the first so they fold out into an L shape.
We've got an Elsan (now Thetford) Porta Potti 238 in ours. It's 32h x 30w x 33d. Don't know what new models are. You can always change height of bog box base to suit different height bog.
You'll need to put a letter box shape hole in the front of the box to allow you to open the toilet flap.

I was going to go for a Fiamma Bi-pot 34.
Would I still need a letter box shaped hole in the front?
I've factored in some grab holes on the sides for lifting it out of the van when I don't need it

If it's a cassette type loo then I would have thought so. I think most have a pull out lever at the front which opens the flap that seals the waste cassette from the bowl.
Re: Making a Devon Bog Box
I think I'm best getting the bog then making the box to fit it rather than doing it half cocked

Re: Making a Devon Bog Box
Why bother making the box? Surely a nice little cushion on top of your new gleaming bog will save time and allow all to admire its beauty

Re: Making a Devon Bog Box
Thing is, this box is way bigger than any portapotty , so you do get added storage space for maybe shoes, tools etc
here's the finished box from the wiki plans

The flip up seat is handy for seating 4 around the table (metal fold out leg from an original devon box)

and a large storage area, or space for the potty (there was enough room to pull the handle out enough without cutting slots)

What did you use for the flip seat frame?

Re: Making a Devon Bog Box
did you mean the metal fold out leg?
It was from an original scrap devon box.
I used a hardwood leg on a hinge.. before I found the frame at a VW show
the fold out frame is made from 1/2" box section, I can post a plan up if you want to make one
