Tips on replacing windows/rubbers

Post by T'Onion »

Ok , I was looking at the window rubbers in my van , they are cracked/split , I have new replacement rubbers and the tool to do so (Thanks BigTam) but I haven't got the bottle to remove the plastic double glazed units (two of them) mainly due to how much a replacement one would cost if I foook it up.

On the Florida its the one in the sliding door and the one directly behind it that are fixed and need replacing.
The rubber is the kind with the V insert.
The steel work looks very good and rust free. Which is why I'd like to do it now rather than wait another winter.
I could cut the old rubber out quite easy ,it the getting the new and the window back in (in one piece) thats worrring me

Anyone got any 'bottlebreaking' tips for me

Thanks
ps will be at Cromer if anyone fancys laughing at me attemping it

Did the small sliding windows in my hi-top last week. don't know if it's the same type of rubber (25mm thick, rubber insert to hold it in place). Never done anything like it before and sh-a-t it big time, but you know, did it all on me own (not as big as a normal window obviously).

If you've got the tool, you'll be fine. Do use lube though, eases things up a bit. Quite expensive for what it is (about £3) but worth it.

Put the rubber in around the window, turn it out towards you so you can slide the window in, then push inwards, gradually, sliding the glass into the groove. Then the final big push.

Good luck! And believe you can do it!

Pay someone else to do it. Preferably an expert. It's so much easier and cheaper.

Strangely coincidental, I was just replying to Dirty's thread. I used a place near me to get new rubbers put in. A bit out of your way though.

The place that originally fitted my van is based in Doncaster - Clarks Vehicle Conversions - maybe they are a tad closer to you
