propex is the size of a shoe box you can fit it anywhere where you can put an exhaust pipe to the outside.
Some put it under the bed, others use a cupboard.
propex draws air from inside the van, (and outside) so as the air in the van warms, propex heats the air quicker.
A footnote here propex require NO servicing, they are a sealed unit.

Re: need a new night heater
3.9 kg calor red bottle (propane.)
not as calorific rich (hot) as butane.. but the bottle sits nicely under the bed

I've got my eye on a couple of propex's. I like the idea of them being a sealed unit and the fact that I don't have to rig up an extra fuel tank. I can just use one tank for the heater and another small one for cooking. I take it you use propane for cooking too due to it being better in the cold (winter camping)

Yep thats one reason, also propane tends to to have the same cyclinder/bottle connector, whereas butane have loads of different reg's so if you run oput away from your supplier you may find as we did that the make we could get needed yet another reg,
so went to propane and now a built in leisure tank (not that dear and more than made up by the cheaper gas) though depends on how much you use it in winter etc

Re: need a new night heater
yeah thats what i ended up getting in the end but if you dont have the right volts to fire it you it just cuts off so you have to make sure you get the right battie for it which i cart same to fine one which fit in the box under the seat

Re: need a new night heater
But you are saying that the battery never goes under 11v - what about where you are supposed to be measuring the voltage - at the heater. It wouldn't surprise me if you were only getting 10v at the heater.
Voltage is to be measured at the heater - not the battery.

^^^^^^^^ this is because everyone misunderstands how to measure it!!
Wiring size and connections need checking. Measure the voltage drop on your lead from the battery and also the negative lead.
If my battery were running at 11v whilst trying to run a heater I would ditch that battery whether new or not.
