Hi, the sliding door on our 1984 Devon, currently rumbles along a track of rust. The door still works at the moment, but sounds awful (compared to a friends van who as a non rusty one). We also have to slam the door to shut it. I guess I am just concerned that one day the door will come to grinding halt as the roller/wheel goes through the track.
Has anyone tackled this job? It looks like a lot of work and not as simple as overlaying a new track and tacking in place I imagine

How rusty is it? If it's just on the surface, give it a good wire brushing and then apply some grease. Before I did this mine was noisy and hard to shut properly, now it's nice and smooth...

Quite rusty I think. I did put the vacuum cleaner in there and it certainly pulled out lots of flakes.
Cheapest option certainly would be a brush and grease. Shall give it a go.
Anyone else had this problem?

Clear off what rust you can
Rust treat it
Spray on Hammerite

84 is an early door and needs slamming
later doors are easier to shut (if they are in line)

rollers in the bottom of the door probably need cleaning and re-greasing too - they make the door slide horribly if they are rough..
