I heard a rumour the other week that watercooled gearboxes won't fit an Aircooled van straight off.. is this true/what mods are needed to brackets/linkage etc?

iirc, the rear half of the linkage needs swapping over(as the joint onto the gearbox selector is different)
i remember help to put a DK box onto a watercooled crewcab years ago, but it was fitted with a audio 5pot SA engine, so i might be confused in my distant memory what we had to do.....

someone with real knowledge will be along in a bit im sure

I believe I read that the nose mount is different but can be swapped ?

front mount needs changing

rear selector rod need modding- air cooles shifter rods are different and mount diff to the water cooled stuff , you need to cut /weld the rods togeteher.

petrol 1.6 box uses cable clutch so some swapping needed

if you keep the Aircooled front mount your engine will need moving! you need to measure /modify the box mount so the engine stays in the same place.
