which bed!?

Post by campercrazy1 »

i've been thinkng about which full width bed for my van for a week or two

blue bird = £325
volkswares = £240

is the extra cost of the blue bird justified

or are the volkwares just as good

any body ever managed to get a discount on them? thanks

Good question as I am going to the getting a new 3/4 bed early next year.

The volkswares bed claims to be 1.9m long when folded down as a bed which seems a bit long??

I assume with both I would still need to construct an extra bed base for the engine bay?

Definiatly with the bluebird you will need to, if you are handy with a saw and wood then probably easy enough to make yourself.... me being unable to saw a straight line I got one made up from these people http://www.thecampershak.co.uk/subcateg ... =Furniture

Fantastic quality and looks great, I will post a pic later when I get home.

The volkswares bed does need a platform building the same as bluebird. Its does extend to1.9m which means it comes quite forward in the van (about a third of the of the width of the side door.) We've got a full width and the result is nearly the same size as a king size bed, its only 50mm narrower! If you can put up with the bed coming that bit further forward when its flat the volkswares bed is fantasic value for money, Its a really solid bit if kit aswell.

How does the foam stay put on both versions of the r&r bed? (when it's a seat)

well the blue bird has two pieces of metal at the front edge of the bed to keep it in place, but i thought these may be uncomfortable wile using as a seat as the foam that is in my price range s 8cm thick (still 80 quid for the bed) and i thought they may dig into the back of the legs

i spoke to a lady at volkswares (v friendly) and they sugget holding them in place using velco attached to the underside of the covers and loop it through the wire mesh

You can't feel the mesh through the foam (I've got 4" Blue foam, the firm stuff). As to fixing. I got some 1" webbing with ladder lock buckles stiched into the coverings. Just threads through the mesh and pulls tight on the buckles. I've got 4 on both seat and back..

havent got it yet, but think im going to go volkwares, the saving of £85 quid will pay for some nice foam- having said that bluebird is a better bed i reckon

Is it me or has the bluebird bed on the website completely changed and gone cheaper?

Here's a topic showing the old design
