Lots of what may seem silly question to most

Post by king6897 »

Hi I am still very new to this and have saved up a few questions to ask hopefully not to silly so here goes !!

1. The seems in between the panels what can I use to fill the cracks in the sealant that's starting to appear, I want to do this before rot sets in?

2. I have 1.9 water-cooled 1990 H komet hi top and I am still awaiting the log book back from the dvla would this be a DG engine and how do I tell please?

3. Also are these engines sometimes referred to as waterboxer, if not what is one please?

4. It been a while since have changed an exhaust and I have done all the hard work by removing the old one but my question is do I use exhaust paste aswell as the gaskets to get a good seal?

many thanks in advance

Hello, and welcome to 80-90.

1. no idea, other than to scrape out all the sealant that is in there now, and replace with new seam sealant

2.a 1.9 will be a df or dg.Open engine cover, look for black plastic chimney thing in front of carb. Engine number will be engraved on block just below the tower

3. yep...also flat four...

4. errr dunno on that"!

Have fun in your bus

if there is no rot use touch up paint to cover the sealant

No, gaskets are enough

I used sikaflex in my seams, that will never crack again that's for sure.

Hi, just done a seam near fuel cap and used Tigerseal. Make sure you get rid of as much of the rust as possible before sealing.

Vactan is one of a range of rust treatments we use on here. Generally cheap on ebay and you want the smallest bottle rather than a big one. Goes a long way.
