AAZ oil consumption

Post by Al Housman »

I fitted a 1995 AAZ engine last year and had the turbo overhauled at the same time.I seem to be getting through an amazing amount of oil and, although it does smoke slightly, it doesn't seem excessive, even when driving hard uphill. There seems to be no great loss through leaks, although it does seep a bit. Could there be a problem with a breather? Or maybe a leak onto the exhaust which burns the oil off ( this isn't obvious to me though) ?
It runs well enough - I just need to be ready to top up each time the buzzer buzzes! I'd have thought that valve guide or cylinder wear would have resulted in more clouds of smoke.

Any thoughts anybody please.

maybe burning oil under high power and boost, burns it a non-blue colour, like invisible

Best time to check is to boot it a bit, at night, with headlights behind, that normally shows any exhaust emissions up well looking in mirror

So we have two strange high oil burners, but they don't show it ... I've had lots of classic TD troubles, turbo troubles, head troubles, red hot oil troubles, etc etc. Never burnt anything like that amount of oil, maybe at the very end of one drama but was very obvious...
