Ay up,
I've just got a set of new GKN CV joints and noticed that they have markings (grooves) at either side of the outer bearing. One side has a single groove and the other side has 3 grooves, which side is the outer please?

Re: GKN CVJ - Which way?
Generally, one side of the joint (the centre part) has a curved surface - that faces the drive shaft. Not sure if that will help Yozza but should point you and joint in right direction.

Thanks for the reply Covkid, I've fitted them now and they 'appear' ok so far.

Don't go by the grooves. You'll notice the centre (splined) part of the joint will displace more to one side of the joint than the other, the side with the greater displacement goes toward the shaft (away from the flange).

Re: GKN CVJ - Which way?
Cheers for the reply, I put them on last weekend and based on pics I saw on another site I fitted them. The inner race has a slight shoulder (step) on one side and a bigger bevelled edge around the spline (which I altook to be for helping the assembly) so I fitted the shaft through this side. I hope that's right. It seems there is a bit of confusion on this topic.
