Hi all
I hope you may be able to offer some advice. Recently I had to replace my engine a 1900 dg. I bought what i hoped would be the best i could afford a Remtec from VW Heritige and thus far everything is great. However having returned from vanfest a 250 mile trip for me, i'm only getting 18 miles per gallon. The engine is still being run in, only done 750 miles to date so the drive was very gentle. I've checked everything any ideas would be of a great help, carb, timing, leaks etc already checked and re-checked. Also before the old unit failed i was about to go LPG , as many seem to without problems , but it invailidates the warrenty on my new engine, is it possible LPG can damage the engine. I hope not because at 18MPG i wont be going too far.
Thanks for any advice .
Andy

Re: Fuel consumption
Can we have a seperate thread for "fuel economy" type questions please?
Sorry, not a personal dig, but it does come up a lot. Have a look in "tech" alone over the past week..
I bought a 19 year old van a few years ago and "somehow" I knew it wasn't going to be that economical
Anyway I put a new/recon Remtec engine in it - 2.1 DJ- and have done 48000km in it in about 3 years.
Fuel wise it depends on the scenario - if I'm driving round locally I do not want to know how bad it is, but on a run I always brim to brim fill and work it out. I get anything between 19 (heavy roofrack load & flooring it doing 130kph steady) and 27 mpg ( reasonably steady away with nowt on the roof)
Give yours time to "settle in" and then the only way you can be sure of your own MPG is to brim fill and keep a log. There's spreadsheets availaable in the Syncro section, at least I think that's where they were Don't, wahtever you do, trust your fuel gauge
Horses for courses really
